What Are The Craziest Fitness Fads Of All Time?

December 4, 2021

Too much of fitness is not good for you and exercising control over your body when life feels a little out of control can be dangerous to you and your health.

In an ideal world, we would all prioritise living a healthy lifestyle. Work, family, and social obligations, on the other hand, might entice even the most determined of us to hunt for shortcuts. This invariably takes us to the Internet, where we are bombarded with a plethora of health and fitness articles, suggestions, and tactics. When it comes to making healthy decisions, we all want to be as informed as possible, but the sheer amount of information available may make it seem hard to distinguish between fact and fad.

How often have you seen claims to “get in shape fast” or “reduce weight in 10 days or less”? This sort of messaging is obviously appealing, but it may also be deceiving and, in some cases, outright lies. Too much of fitness is not good for you and exercising control over your body when life feels a little out of control can be dangerous to you and your health.

Here are the extreme lengths people have gone to achieve the unachievable perfect shape.

Sauna Suits

Sauna Suit

na Considering how hot you are in a sauna sitting motionless and wearing only swimwear, wearing a Sauna Suit whilst working out sounds torturous. The Sauna Suit is a tracksuit that may be worn during a workout or just while doing your daily routine. It claims to help you lose weight by making you sweat excessively.

In practise however, wearing a Sauna Suit entails dehydrating yourself while enclosing the likely strong odour in a tracksuit that resembles bin bags. While working out promotes weight loss, it is far better to let your body regulate its temperature naturally.

Rather than wearing a Sauna Suit, we recommend resting and relaxing in a sauna at an official spa or gym.

Toning Shoes

Toning Shoes

If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that people will put their pride aside in order to be in shape. This certainly includes the trend that is Toning Shoes (and a slew of other peculiar-looking shoes) that all claim to help tone your body while you walk.

Even big shoe brands such as Reebok and Skechers produced pairs of these toning shoes, but do they truly function for anything other than making you look rather silly? We doubt it. The is one fad we are prepared to demote back to the shoebox.

Dumbbell Utensils

Dumbbell Utensils

Speaking of looking silly, there is perhaps nothing sillier than Dumbbell Utensils. Dumbbells with a fork, knife, and spoon connected to each end make up this three-piece completely functioning cutlery set and believe it or not, this isn’t a joke. The 1.5-pound Knife and Fork Lift was created as a result of frustration with diets that didn’t work, so he made each bite more difficult.

Other than making eating less enjoyable, we are very doubtful that this will help you achieve your fitness goals in the long-term and once again, you’re going to look ridiculous.

Power Plates

Power Plate

As one of the more expensive fads in our list, the Power Plate and other similar vibrating platforms supposedly produce involuntary reflex muscle contraction more often than if you were exercising on a surface that wasn’t shaking.

The Power Plate includes a huge vibrating base on which users are expected to conduct classic exercises, like squats or push-ups. Apparently, just ten minutes on a Power Plate can boost strength, power and definition.

Is it really possible for us to shake ourselves stronger? We aren’t so sure.

Diet Pillls

Diet Pills

Diet pills and weight-loss supplements have existed since the beginning of time. However, of all the fitness fads out there, it is diet pills that are perhaps the most dangerous. For instance, one drug previously prescribed for weight-loss, as well as diet pills bought online, have been discovered to potentially cause death.

Despite celebrities having consistently endorsed products like these, it is never worth the risk.

Although we recognise that fitness and health are a vital part of one’s lifestyle and one we should not neglect, this should be done in a safe way and in moderation, ideally supported by a personal trainer and a nutritionist, rather than silly gimmicks which claim to promote a healthy way of living. They aren’t worth the money!
