DDW’s New Music Monday- August 1st. Compiling some of the biggest and best summer releases to date.
DDW is back in spectacular fashion, kicking off New Music Monday- August 1st stacked with some of this summer’s most anticipated and successful releases so far. From the return of Sasha fierce, with Beyoncé’s Renaissance to Calvin Harris’ collaborative bangers. This week is filled with releases that’ll have you chasing that weekend feeling.
PURE/HONEY by Beyoncé
First, on our list of New Music Monday- August 1st is Beyoncé’s newest single PURE/HONEY from her latest album Renaissance. Originally scheduled for a late summer release, Beyoncé surprised fans last week when the pop superstar released her highly anticipated follow-up to 2016’s Lemonade, Renaissance, due to the album being prematurely leaked.
Following its surprise, early release, Beyoncé also released her latest single, PURE/HONEY, which comes after Break My Soul’s June release. Following the same, disco dance vibes as the previous release, PURE/HONEY is another hedonistic utopian endeavour, complimented by heavy synth counterparts and pop melodies with critics comparing the track’s themes to Madonna’s “MDNA” release.

Hot Girl by Charli XCX
Next on our list of New Music- August 1st is Charli XCX’s latest hyper-pop release. With Halina Reijn’s A24 Millennial horror satire Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) set for release this week, August 5. It comes as no surprise that a millennial Scream-Esque slasher, must follow similar traits to Craven’s 90’s Scream franchise with an equally as impressive soundtrack, that effortlessly encapsulates the style and feel of an era.
That’s where Charli XCX comes in. XCX’s latest single Hot Girl is the first edition to Bodies Bodies Bodies soundtrack that has been officially released. Giving fans an insight into what sort of film they can expect this weekend. With a basic distorted hip-hop synth track, drum beat, and societal commentary lyricism, Hot Girl may seem a bit basic and flat as a stand-alone release, but Reijn’s Bodies Bodies Bodies will certainly elevate the release through its audio/visual use of the track. At least, we hope.

New to You by Calvin Harris
Following the collaborative funk, throwback track Stay With Me, which featured Justin Timberlake, Halsey & Pharrel. Calvin Harris is back again with yet another collaborative nostalgic funk disco track. New To You, featuring Normani, Tinashe & Offset.
While the track is a little more stripped back and chill compared to Stay With Me, the energy each artist brings to Harris’ minimalist catchy ’70s undertones creates a nostalgic disco vibe. Giving daytime summer lido vibes. Sat by the beach, socialising with friends, sipping on a cocktail in Malibu. Harris’ exchanges chart dominant tropes for a more intricate and precise production. Not looking for any number 1 spots, just looking to create an elegant and relaxing summer bop.
