The Trailblazer Award is one of the special recognition accolades and was established at The Fashion Awards in 2018 and honours the top fashion innovators and creatives whose work in the past year has been a game-changer and has profoundly influenced the industry. Kim Jones and Sarah Burton are two of the previous winners.

Michele will be honoured as Gucci’s Creative Director for his “visionary work” in establishing Gucci at the intersection of culture, art, music, and film. Michele has presented Gucci’s Aria and Love Parade collections, created Vault by Gucci, and inaugurated the Gucci Garden Archetypes exhibit and the Gucci Archive in Florence in the last year, all while continuing to widen the scope of what a typical luxury fashion house should be.

The British Fashion Council has added that in addition to designing Gucci’s collections, “Michele has demonstrated a consistently creative vision for the house, overseeing all aspects from brand image to retail concept, expanding to innovative online retail spaces, creating immersive multi-media experiences and launching disruptive collaborations.”

The BFC Chief Executive, Caroline Rush added in a statement: “Alessandro’s work at Gucci over the last year defines what it means is to be a trailblazer, he is a pioneer in every aspect of his creative output and uses the power of design to pave new paths connecting the fashion industry to all other industries from film to digital innovation.

He is an incredible source of inspiration for many generations to come and we look forward to celebrating with him next week in London.”

This award has arrived at an opportune time for Gucci. The brand’s cultural longevity and importance are more apparent than ever. The brand is commemorating its 100th anniversary this year, and the film House of Gucci, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver is premiering this month.
