THE nominees for the 79th Golden Globe Awards have been announced, with the ceremony set to take place on January 9th, 2022.
The awards have been mired in controversy lately, with much of Hollywood questioning the legitimacy of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) after allegations came to light of poor journalistic practice, infighting, and a serious lack of diversity.
The HFPA has announced plans for reform throughout the organisation, but it remains to be seen whether this will convince Hollywood’s finest to actually turn up on the night. There is also no official telecaster partner, with the event being live-streamed via goldenglobes.com and on the Golden Globes YouTube channel.
The show must go on, however, and the nominations are out. Leading the pack are Kenneth Branagh’s autobiographical drama Belfast and Jane Campion’s western The Power of the Dog with seven nominations each. Adam McKay’s apocalyptic comedy Don’t Look Up did well too, picking up four nominations.
