Everything You Need To Know About ‘Solos’: Cast, Release Date & More

May 13, 2021

Your latest TV obsession has arrived!

Amazon Prime Video have released the first trailer for their upcoming anthology series SOLOS, with Hunters creator David Weil at the helm.

SOLOS was officially announced by Amazon in October 2020 and we’ve all been waiting for more news since then. Now, the streaming service has revealed SOLOS’ all-star cast, release date and given us an exciting first look at the series itself.

Here’s everything you need to know about SOLOS ahead of its release!

What Is SOLOS About?

Having released the trailer for the series via their official YouTube channel, Amazon Prime Video have also given subscribers an overview of what to expect from SOLOS.

The series has been described as a collection of ‘unique, character-driven stories’.

“The seven-part anthology series explores the strange, beautiful, heart-breaking, hilarious, wondrous truths of what it means to be human,” says Prime Video.

“The series spans our present and future and illuminates that even during our most isolated moments we are all connected through the human experience.”

Creator David Weil has since further commented on the theme of human connection that runs throughout the series.

“I created this piece with a desire to capture stories about connection, hope and the search for that common hum of humanity that binds us all,” he said.

“I am beyond thrilled to be bringing Solos to life alongside this group of artists who I so deeply admire.”

Who Is In The Star-Studded SOLOS Cast?

A look at the trailer for SOLOS proves to be a veritable ‘Who’s who?’ of Hollywood’s biggest names, with several multi-award-winning actors featuring in its exciting line-up.

The cast features not one, but three Oscar-winners, with Les Miserables’ Anne Hathaway and legendary performers Morgan Freeman and Dame Helen Mirren all featuring heavily throughout the teaser.

They will be joined by Miss Juneteenth’s Nicole Beharie, The Hurt Locker’s Antony Mackie, Legion’s Dan Stevens and Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu.

Orange Is The New Black Emmy-winner Uzo Aduba completes the line-up.

Little is known about the characters just yet, with only the characters’ names revealed so far. However, whatever the stories, it’s clear to see that they’re in very good hands.

When Is SOLOS Out?

The release date for SOLOS is set for May 21st 2021 in the US, UK and other select territories, with the series being released worldwide on June 25th 2021.

Where Can I Watch SOLOS?

As an Amazon Original, the series will be available exclusively via Prime Video.

However, with over 18,000 titles to choose from, the streaming service is certainly a worthy addition to your monthly subscriptions alongside current market leader Netflix.

What Other Shows Is SOLOS Similar To?

If you can’t wait until May 21st, there are plenty of similar shows out there to keep you going in the meantime.

The obvious comparison is Charlie Brooker’s Netflix hit Black Mirror, another star-studded anthology series within the sci-fi genre that takes an in-depth look at our changing relationship with technology. SOLOS’ Anthony Mackie puts in a fantastic performance in the first episode of the show’s fifth season, Striking Vipers.

Netflix is also the home of The One, a thrilling eight-part sci-fi/mystery drama set in a world in which humans can identify their one true soulmate through genetic matching. As you can imagine, this sort of groundbreaking discovery isn’t without its dark consequences – for its users or for its increasingly dangerous inventor.

Finally, Prime Video have dipped their toe into similar waters before with Tales From The Loop, a drama series which follows the interconnected lives of small-town residents living above The Loop, an underground research facility where scientists attempt to ‘make the impossible possible’.

SOLOS is available to stream via Amazon Prime Video from May 21st 2021.
