With a capsule collection honouring the lucky rabbit as per Chinese folklore, Diesel is off to a great start in 2023.
The New Year beckons emerging fashion collections, and Diesel has been quick to hop on trend with their latest; an unequivocally red capsule collection inspired by the Chinese New Lunar Year, honouring the lucky hopping rabbit and happening on the 22nd of January 2023.
It is not the only brand looking to celebrate the year of the Rabbit, with Italian luxury fashion house, Marni, having also recently released a collection inspired in the Chinese New Year. Differentially, however, their collection was more based on pastel colours and worked with the collaboration of Italian artist Flaminia Veronesi with soft rabbit graphics. Visually, Marni opted for an Alice in Wonderland aesthetic which comes across much more playful than Diesel’s. Other brands also launching ode’s to the new lunar year include Gucci, The North Face or Bang & Olufsen.
Now available in the brand’s Hong Kong stores, the Diesel Lunar New Year capsule collection is an ode to the brand’s unequivocal material of choice; denim. Shaped into trucker jackets and shirt dresses in tie-dyed denim, as well as hoodies and tracksuits, the collection roars with edginess dipped in crimson.
Perhaps one of the stand-out pieces of what has been seen of the capsule collection so far, however, is its crimson bag. Featuring a futuristic shape, the accessory is plastered with a re-interpreted logo, courtesy of creative director Glenn Martens, which since 2021 has been re-gearing the brand towards a more Gen-Z like audience.
In case a collection this distinctive was not enough to get Diesel enthusiasts excited about the brand’s future prospects, Diesel has been impeccable with the amount of detail that has gone into this release. Allegedly, every pair of jeans from the Diesel New Year Lunar collection comes with a printed label stating “S.E. Year of the Rabbit For Successful Living.”
A Happy New Year message if we’ve ever seen one.
