Following its positive reception at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Brett Morgen’s David Bowie feature Moonage DayDream has finally a scheduled release date.
Filmmaker Brett Morgen, rose to fame after helming the 2015 Music Documentary triumph Cobain: Montage of Heck. Produced by Universal and grossing $687,649 worldwide. Morgan’s debut low-budget music doc was a box office success, with a shoestring budget and reliance on pre-existing archive footage. The story of Cobain was an international hit. Earning Morgen a reputation as one of the most creative, and quintessential modern-day biopic filmmakers. Now, Moving from one musical icon to another, Morgen’s sights have been set on Moonage Daydream, a biopic which tells the story of the late, great, Hall of Famer David Bowie.
The feature, which is titled Moonage Daydream, after the track featured on the 1972 Ziggy Stardust album. Is scheduled for release on September 16 2022. With the film expected to follow a similar approach as the former release.
The first teaser trailer which was released earlier this year captures the evolution of David Bowie as an individual and artist with never-seen-before footage and narrations from Bowie himself. Early reviews from this year’s Cannes, described the film as an ethereal, spiritually captivating journey. Taking viewers deep into the mindset of the illustrious artist.

With many Bowie projects being pitched over the years, Moonage Daydream is the first of which has been approved by the family estate.
Set to cover five decades of the Artist’s career, Moonage Daydream features exclusive diary entries, behind the scenes, recordings as well as never-before-seen performances. With many left mystified by David Bowie’s enigmatic personas and artistry, Moonage Daydream aims to shed some light and insight on the man behind the magic.
Brett Morgen’s David Bowie biopic is set to be released in select theatres September 22.
