As part of our Conversation Skills series, DDW sits down with Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Hadiya George, who is fresh from the release of her latest single Balance. Featured on MixMag’s Top Artists to Check Out in 2022, her brilliantly soulful vocals hit every note and blend delightfully with R&B beats to create her charismatic, melodic sound.
George has been creative since the age of six when she participated in choirs, orchestras, dance groups, and bands, but she has been busy rubbing shoulders with dance music nobility of late, teaming up with the likes of Honey Dijon on Not About You and Horse Meat Disco on Home. Read on to find out what mantra Hadiya George lives by:
WHERE do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself 100x more successful than I am now because I’m working hard now to build generational wealth and financial freedom for my family and me which is extremely exciting given the journey I’ve been on thus far. With music, touring and other sources of income I’m the architect of my life and I can see that in ten years I will be recognized as an inspiration to women and men all around the world!
If you could do just one thing for the rest of your life, what would that be?
It would be making a residual income from creating successful businesses which will keep my family fed! The one thing I love to do the most is spending time having fun with my family and the best way to do that is to be worry free!
Where are your go-to places to find peace of mind?
The Beach, deep breathing anywhere, meditation, the recording studio, painting in the park or painting in general.
What’s the most important thing that you’ve learned so far?
The most important thing I’ve learned so far in life is to breathe – through all settings life puts me in. Every job, every room, every bad situation and every good one.
What are your top 5 party hot spots around the globe?
I have 3 top hot spots not just for partying but for experiencing. Top 1 is in my mind. I love to laugh and have fun anywhere I go and to me, life itself is a party! Second is Jamaica, whenever I visit it’s always so vibrant and the clubs are even more sensational. Third is New York, I just love how it’s so unique and powerful – many people who live there are so outspoken whether it be style or orally.
How do you want the world to remember you?
My purpose has been to serve and to be of service. The gifts that I provide to the world, people will remember them as they perceive and how they absorb those images is up to them. Gifts can change the hearts of the giftee, and I hope that I can just make somebody smile.
Do you have a mantra that you live by?
Yes! Detach myself from worry and marry my dreams and goals.
Who do you look up to?
I look up to the Toltecs. I admire the mindset they created a society around – with wisdom, love and understanding, forgiveness and leadership.
Name one thing you can’t live without.
I can’t live without quinoa bean burgers ugh! They’re way too good to live without especially with the Thai sauce from sprouts.
What don’t you want to die wondering about?
I’m going to die fearlessly, and I know that my work here on earth is something I gave my absolute best to! I overcame obstacles, I created magic, and I’ve accepted truths that my old spirit would have ignored. The life that I’m living now is incredible and I am extremely grateful for the life that I’m experiencing today and every day!
