Bella Hadid is making the crossover from supermodel to actress — she is set to make her acting debut in Season 3 of the Hulu’s Emmy-nominated “Ramy.”
Is there anything Bella Hadid can’t do? The supermodel has long been regarded as a style icon, but this year, Bella will be adding ‘actor’ to her CV – what a woman.
Bella officially joined the Ramy cast on April 1, according to Deadline, and the part will be her first credited scripted role (a.k.a. not your average celeb cameo), though no specifics about her character have been disclosed yet.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Bella wrote, “aka the local backgammon tournament […] best cast, best crew, best show […] honoured & excited .♥️ yallaaaa @ramy
“if you haven’t watched the first two seasons…. go. run. now. 🙏🏽love you [sic].”
Ramy is a comedy-drama series that follows the son of Egyptian immigrants, Ramy Hassan (played by Ramy Youssef) as he navigates a spiritual journey to reconcile his Muslim faith with his New Jersey lifestyle.
Ramy Youssef won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Tv Comedy for his role on the show in 2020, and the series has won three Primetime Emmy Awards in total. Hulu also announced in July 2020 that the show will be renewed for a third season.
According to Variety, season three will “bring a new perspective to the screen as it explores the challenges of what it’s like to be caught between a religious community who believes life is a moral test, and a millennial generation that doubts an afterlife even exists.
“In the third season, his family is forced to confront having lived a life dedicated to worldly concerns — and in some cases, lies — while Ramy all but abandons his spiritual journey, instead dedicating himself to him and his uncle’s diamond business.”
Bella, like Ramy, is of Middle Eastern heritage and has spoken publicly about being a Muslim. “I am proud to be Muslim,” Bella declared back in 2017, when former US President Donald Trump proposed a travel ban targeting a handful of Muslim-majority countries. Ramy has received widespread critical acclaim for its positive portrayal of American Muslims. Notable guest stars on the show have also included two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali, Jake Lacy of The White Lotus, and Anna Konkle of PEN15.
Bella is the latest supermodel to break into the acting world. In 2021, it was announced that Cara Delevingne will join Selena Gomez in the cast of Disney+’s Only Murders In The Building. Kaia Gerber has also been cast in the upcoming season of American Horror Story. And who could forget Gisele Bündchen‘s magnificent cameo in The Devil Wears Prada as a magazine staffer?
Congrats to Bella on her first major acting role!
