In Wes Craven’s Scream franchise, Courtney Cox plays Gale Weathers a local reporter trying to get to the bottom of the brutal murders haunting the town of Woodsboro. In order to get the scoop and solve the murders, the television reporter will lie, steal, and destroy anybody who stands in her way. She’s devious and sharp-tongued, but she’s also always terrifyingly chic. Sure, Gale is the franchise’s most unlikeable character, but you can’t deny that the shrewd reporter adds a level of sophisticated style to the Scream films that the other survivors don’t. We’d even go so far as to say she’s a style icon. No joke.
With a new Scream film currently in cinemas, Gale will be returning to Woodsboro, and we’re hoping for a triumphant return of her sharp style, but also that she won’t be killed off, obviously. Gale has inspired us all to always dress to impress, even when your life is on the line. She is a true icon.
Here are our favourite of Gale Weathers’ looks.
The Lime Green Power Suit
Dressing almost exclusively in power suits in the first film Gale Weathers shows up everywhere. When Sidney is first attacked, she turns up in what is perhaps her most iconic outfit, the bright and beautiful lime green skirt suit. With her cameraman in tow, of course.
The Realisation in Red
Gale later shifts into a bright red skirt suit complete with a Peter Pan collar while reporting from Sidney’s high school. A very chic outfit to receive a potential lead on the killer in.
The Little Black Dress
Gale’s style transforms to a more understated investigative journalist chic in the second film. W when she ambushes Sidney with a television team (typical Gale), she keeps it simple with a black button-up dress and a large pendant necklace. One thing that remains consistent though is that red is clearly Gales’ colour — just look at her hair.
The Yellow Trouser Suit
We might not be on board with her hairstyle in Scream 3, but her impeccable sense of tailoring remains. She wears a bright yellow trouser suit and sneaks into a Hollywood film set with a camera disguised in her top-handle handbag. She even matches the sign behind her. Truly iconic.
Let’s hope that when we get round to watching the newest film, we have even more iconic outfits to look forward to. It seems as though we might.
